Supervisor Change

In justified cases, a doctoral student may apply to the Doctoral School Programme Council, through the Director of the Doctoral School, for a change of supervisor, supervisors, or assistant supervisor.

The application should include:

  • the doctoral student’s full name,
  • PESEL number, or if unavailable, the number of another identity document,
  • the proposed new supervisor, supervisors, or assistant supervisor,
  • the indication of the discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is being prepared,
  • the consent of the proposed person or persons to undertake the role,
  • justification for the application,
  • a revised individual research plan, if required,
  • an opinion of the current supervisor, supervisors, or supervisor and assistant supervisor specifying the stage of progress of the doctoral dissertation, unless circumstances prevent such an opinion from being issued.

The decision on the change of supervisor is made by the Doctoral School Programme Council by secret ballot. According to the Regulations of the Doctoral School, an application for a change of supervisor, supervisors, or assistant supervisor may be submitted only once during the period of education at the Doctoral School.

If the supervisor is no longer able to provide academic supervision, in particular due to resignation, loss of qualifications, health reasons, or death, the Doctoral School Programme Council appoints a new supervisor in accordance with the applicable regulations.
