BioLAB Program

The Polish-American Fulbright Commission invites master’s and doctoral students in biological and chemical sciences, biophysics, medicine, and related fields to apply to the BioLAB Program 2024-25. The application deadline is February 1, 2025.

The BioLAB program offers a one-year research internship at a laboratory located at one of four institutions in the US:

  • University of Virginia, Charlottesville
  • University of Chicago, Chicago
  • University of Texas: Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas
  • Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City

During the internship, students conduct independent research in modern laboratories under the supervision of qualified mentors. The results of their research are often published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, they actively participate in the life of the American university, attend seminars and guest lectures, and learn about American culture. In some cases, they also have the opportunity to use the results of their research for their master’s/doctoral thesis at their home university.

Participation in the Program includes:

  • Scholarship of approximately $28,000–$35,000, depending on living expenses
  • Full medical insurance
  • Assistance in obtaining an F-1 or J-1 visa for stay in the US (the cost of obtaining a SEVIS number and visa is covered by the student)
  • Preparation for departure led by the BioALB Program Manager and program graduates
  • Care during the stay on the program offered by the host institution

The following persons are eligible to apply for an internship under the BioLAB Program:

  • They meet the requirements for obtaining an F-1 or J-1 visa.
  • They study biology, chemistry, biophysics, medicine, or a related field.
  • At the time of the interviews, they will be master’s or doctoral students at a Polish university or research institution and will maintain active student status during the internship.
  • They achieved a high grade point average during their studies (recommended average – 4.0 or higher)
  • They demonstrate a good command of English, especially in scientific terminology.

IMPORTANT: In addition to active student status at a Polish university, we also require non-Polish citizens to have completed a first-cycle degree in Poland (bachelor’s or engineering).
